About Us

Jim-and-Jesse-PosterThe story of Paradise is the story of four brothers from Northeast Ohio. The Four brothers, from a family of 8 children who grew up in an Amish community where playing of instrumental music was frowned upon and actually forbidden by the church.Paradise-Business-Card

Despite the odds and church regulations against music, the boys found ways to listen to music, first on transistor radios that were kept in secret and later they listened to their favorite artists on battery powered record players. One by one, they learned to play and sing the music that tugged at their heartstrings.

Early on in the 1960”s they were drawn to the music of Jim and Jesse and the Virginia boys, The Louvin Brothers, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, George Jones, and more. However, 20 years spanned the ages of the four brothers and so the musical influences and personal preferences were broad and varied among the four.

The first band formed with the prodding of a special friend Eli Raber, who had a strong devotion to bluegrass music. It was during this time the boys began playing at social church functions and weddings. Eli moved his family to Oregon in 1985. Eli continues to play music in the Jericho Road Gospel Bluegrass Band. He was replaced in the band with David the youngest of the Miller Brothers.

For nearly ten years, in a practice studio that was previously used as the family buggy shed, the four brothers set aside one evening a week to work on music. Here in this converted farm shed, the brothers merged talents of four individuals of varied musical genres influence and taste to become the music of paradise.

Paradise-Poster-1During the ten years from 1985 to 1995 they played nearly 000? events. The venues were mostly in churches, community and social events, Christmas banquets, weddings, campgrounds, festivals and fairs. Most events were in Ohio, however they played in Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania and some parts of Michigan. One hi-light for the boys came in June of 1988 when they opened a show for bluegrass icons Jim and Jesse, and their own musical mentors, near Harrisburg Pennsylvania.
